Hydration is essential to outdoor enthusiasts and is crucial in avoiding heat-related illnesses that range from mild heat rash to life-threatening heatstroke.
Hydration packs make drinking hands-free a comfortable and convenient experience, as well as monitoring water intake during strenuous activities. A quality hydration pack should feature a large opening with an easy drinking tube that offers smooth sipping while moving.
Source Hydration Bladders & Systems
Source Bladder is one of the easiest bladders to use thanks to its nearly self-maintenance properties. Made of co-extruded polyethylene film designed to be taste-free and featuring an antibacterial layer called “Grunge-Guard,” this bladder offers almost self-care features that ensure lasting performance.
The Wideslide opening is ideal for filling, inserting ice cubes, emptying and cleaning – it’s even 100% leakproof! Plus its elongated spout with flip-and-screw top opening makes it simple and secure attachment with any hydration pack or running vest.
Pouch are ideal for storing gear and supplies like food, snacks and tools. With their flat shoulder strap with chest strap stowability feature and four clips for attachment to MOLLE loops on tactical packs or vests – time tested in military settings as well as battlefield environments – these tough and reliable bladders make rucking more fun than ever! Additionally, two liter versions are also available should 3L be too much to handle for you.
Outdoor Products Hydration Reservoirs
Hydration packs with an integrated reservoir (sometimes known as a bladder) can make life much simpler for people who like to drink their water on the move, saving time and money by having chilled reservoirs that you fill at home before heading out on their hike or bike ride – saving both time and money along the way!
A quality hydration pack should include features like an ergonomic bite valve without kinking that includes an on/off switch, plus tube portals to route drink tubes neatly over either shoulder. Furthermore, quick release hose attachment systems make it easier to disconnect and pull out hoses from their reservoir without taking your pack off your back.
Reservoir opening size can also have a major effect on how easy it is to fill. Wider openings like those found on Osprey and HydraPak packs make filling easier, fitting easily into your hand and being straightforward to clean; while circular screw-top ports with slider seals on CamelBak packs may prove more difficult.
Source Oral Rehydration Solution
DripDrop’s World Health Organization-recommended oral rehydration solution1 (ORS) with additional hydration benefits designed for travel, heat, wellness and sports is truly remarkable. ORS contains sodium and glucose to accelerate rapid water absorption through passive sodium-glucose co-transport in intestinal villi. It has significantly decreased global mortality from diarrheal illness due to its use.
Preparing ORS involves mixing one sachet of powder with one liter of clean and safe water, available both as ready-to-use solutions as well as powders that must be mixed with liquid before use. In most countries it can also be purchased prepackaged ready-to-go solutions.
Our randomized clinical trial assessed caretaker satisfaction with WHO-ORSs that require preparation as opposed to commercially prepared ones (C-ORS). We found that sucralose-sweetened solutions were more palatable than rice-based ones; however, more than half of participants still did not voluntarily consume more than half of the most palatable solutions again voluntarily; this should not discourage their use when used in settings where these products could help children reduce unscheduled follow-up visits more frequently.
Osprey Hydration Packs
Hydration packs are popular among mountain bikers and trail runners for their sleek, low-profile storage solutions. This typically includes a rolled harness which contours to your upper shoulders for increased stability on the trail, and they often come equipped with an Osprey Hydraulics reservoir designed specifically to fit into their packs for an unobtrusive design.
These backpacks feature various designs for their structure, load-bearing support and ventilation needs. Minimalist options with simple foam or mesh backpanels make these ideal for light loads and day hikes while more robust suspension systems provide rigid frame sheets, metal stays and suspended mesh backpanels to offer class-leading ventilation on heavy loads and longer trips.
Osprey offers mountain biking-specific packs designed with more aggressive, body-hugging shapes for improved stability when climbing or riding, including the Osprey Mira 22 (suited for individuals 5-foot-8 and under) and Manta 24. Both packs include more storage including zippered accessory pockets and trekking pole attachments.
