TALLADEGA, Ala. – On March 11-12, the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) hosted its second 3D Archery Match of the year at Talladega Marksmanship Park in Alabama. A total of 10 individuals participated in the event.
Kenneth Bowes reached a score of 212 to lead the Men’s Known 40 event, while Devyn Chapman reached 196 to overtake the top spot in the Young Adult Open Female category. Other categories of the tournament included the Men’s Known 40, Men’s Pins 30, Men’s Pins 40 and the Young Adult Open Male – each seeing only one competitor at Talladega in March.
Talladega’s 3D Archery Tournaments are open to the public, with both new and experienced individuals welcome to compete. The competitions are designed for hunters, archery enthusiasts or anyone else who simply loves to use a bow and arrow.
The tournaments follow official ASA (Archery Shooters Association) rules and are fired upon professional Delta McKenzie Targets. Though the events are held over two days, individuals may choose one day to complete his or her 20 total targets for score. Entry fee is $7.50 for Juniors (ages 6-17) and $15 for Adults (18 and over).
The next Talladega Monthly Archery Tournament will be held April 22-23. Additional upcoming monthly 3D Archery Tournaments at Talladega in 2023 include: June 24-25, Aug. 19-20, Sept. 16-17 and Oct. 7-8.
Points from the ASA State feed into the Alabama ASA State Shooter of the Year Program. Designated ASA Tournaments are also scheduled at Talladega for May 20-21 and July 15-16.
The 3D Archery Range at Talladega Marksmanship Park is located on the shotgun side of the grounds and outfitted with 20 lanes of life-size 3D targets, specially painted to look like live animals in their natural habitat. The foam Delta-McKenzie targets are designed to fit along pathways tucked between the trees of Talladega’s terrain and can be arranged from 15 to 50 yards. The archery area also contains a 30×60-yard practice range.
