EDGEFIELD, S.C. — The first annual Feathers and Fur Women in the Outdoors Brunch, hosted by the NWTF Lexington Longbeards Chapter in Columbia, South Carolina, proved to be a resounding success after meticulous planning and preparation over several months.

“I cannot emphasize enough how appreciative I am of all the attendees, sponsors and donors,” Jennifer Hodge, organizer of the event, said. “Your collective efforts and contributions were pivotal in ensuring the resounding success of this event. We look forward to this now becoming an annual WITO event.”

Taking place on September 30, the event provided participants with a variety of food, cocktails, and the opportunity for companionship, all while promoting women’s engagement in outdoor activities. Furthermore, each woman who attended the event departed with a personalized piece of jewelry.

The Feathers and Fur WITO Brunch also held a silent auction and raffle, where lucky winners had the chance to walk away with new firearms hunting trips, gear and more.

In addition to the activities, the event offered valuable resources and information to those interested in pursuing hunting.

Notably, Larry Deas, South Carolina NWTF State Chapter president, and Matt McLain were special guest bartenders catering to the women in attendance.

“I wish to express my profound appreciation to all the amazing women who took part and generously supported the cause of wild turkeys,” Hodge said. “A heartfelt shout-out goes to Morgan Harrell from Artemis South Carolina, whose valuable insights enriched the Artemis connection with the NWTF community. I’d also like to extend my gratitude to Billie Sosebee McCarter for sharing details about upcoming WITO events.”

Recognizing the growing demand for outdoor skills training programs for women, the NWTF introduced its Women in the Outdoors program in 1998. In the last decade, the number of women owning firearms and participating in activities like target shooting and hunting has significantly increased. The WITO program, hosted by NWTF chapters nationwide, provides affordable events that offer enriching outdoor experiences. These events cater to women seeking outdoor adventures and opportunities for quality time with family and friends, fostering lifelong pursuits in the outdoors.
