Gear Review: Rocky Outback Gore-Tex Waterproof Hiker Boot

Finding a great quality leather boot that can handle the prairie, the snow and mud and still look good enough to walk into the lodge or club is not easy but Rocky had done a great job with the Waterproof Rocky Outback Hiker Boot. Assembled in full-grain leather that is soft and supple and holds up through think and thin no matter the conditions. The lace-up design works well and the moc-toe box looks exceptional whether in upland pants or jeans.

The GORE-TEX fabric inside ensures that these boots remain dry and waterproof and the Rocky Terra Suspension footbed provides cushion for your dry warm feet. GORE-TEX provides waterproofing, wind proofing and breathability. Looking through the reviews for these boots we could see some folks have been buying these boots for several years so they seem to have a pretty cult following.

One of the features we liked about these boots was these Rocky boots are oil and slip resisting. We found these boots also do extremely well in snow and ice. I found the traction of these boots to be exceptional in just about any condition. We took them upland hunting and the lace-up design allows you to keep them tight for uneven terrain and looser for smooth surface hiking. The lugs on these boots is pretty flat so they don’t seem to collect a lot of mud and rocks. These boots come in sizes from 8 to 15 and a medium as well as a wide version so you can pick the size that best fits your feet and your needs.

Overall, I really liked these boots. I wore them for about a month on and off and with several hunts chasing pheasants and some photography hikes. Conditions for the vast majority of our time wearing these was late fall and into the winter and snowy weather. They look good, they feel good and they keep my feet warm and dry without a ton of extra weight which is perfect for long days upland hunting with my pup and then getting home and having dinner out on the town.
