Let’s face it: there are extra challenges being a woman in the outdoors. Whether you work outdoors or just enjoy spending time outside, we often find ourselves far from a bathroom when nature calls. Most women handle this inconvenience gracefully; we are resigned to squatting behind a tree. We try to avoid getting our pant legs or shoes wet. We hope we have a tissue with us, and we probably have a zip-top plastic bag to hold any personal trash we might have. And we are prepared to freeze our rear ends off when it’s cold outside. Other women simply cannot seem to relieve themselves outside. Either way, it is a reality of being outdoors for an extended period of time.
Enter Gnara: an innovative and inclusive apparel company dedicated to getting more people outside in safe and healthy ways.
As a summer glacier guide in Alaska, one of the co-founders of Gnara (previously SheFly) found herself limiting water hydration in order to avoid more frequent “adventures” to find the privacy needed to remove several layers of clothing in freezing temperatures. Women do this – they drink less water to avoid having to “go to the bathroom.” As we all know, that is not healthy!
To this end, Gnara created their “GoFly Technology.” Essentially, the GoFly Technology includes the GoFly zipper that extends from beneath the traditional first zipper to the back of the waistband, an internal fabric shield to ensure comfort, and an external fabric flap which completely covers the zipper making it discreet and indetectable.
The result is a very comfortable and good-looking pair of durable pants that incorporate the comfort, ease and privacy most women want. Simply unzip the secondary zipper toward the back of the waistband, squat, and go. Unzip only as far as you need. This affords you the most privacy possible. The external zipper flap is made from the same material as the rest of the pants and it covers the zipper, making the system completely unnoticeable.
Even without the GoFly Technology, the Go There Pants are great looking and super comfortable. I like the higher waist and the somewhat flared legs which fit comfortably over hiking or work boots. The front pockets are deep and can be zipped closed. The back pockets are also deep enough and have an integrated flap that helps keep things in the pockets. There is a right side thigh pocket which fits my phone perfectly and can be zipped up as well. The material has four-way stretch, is pill and snag resistant, and is water resistant.
Care for the Go There Pants is simple: machine wash in cold water and tumble dry on low.
Gnara produces Go There Pants and Go There Shorts as well as overalls, all with the GoFly Technology. They offer these in a wide variety of colors and sizes from 00 to 22. Check out these and all their products at gnara.com.
